Sadami Azuma

 

Sadami Azuma was a member of the Gutai Art Association, established by Jiro Yoshihara, since its inception in 1954, and changed the flow of Japanese modern painting.

It is impossible to fit Sadami Azuma’s works into the modern

Western aesthetic frameworks of concreteness or abstractness.

There has never been an artist who paints pictures like this or who

tries to put these kinds of “feelings” into a picture.

Simply put, the paintings are difficult to understand.

Nevertheless, the works invoke feelings in viewers, and even now,

after the artist’s death, they continue to exude a sense of power  and presence.

Brève biographie de Sadami Azuma 1928 Né dans la ville de Kobe et diplômé de la Faculté des Lettres de l'Université du Kansai

1950 Première présentation de ses œuvres lors d’une exposition de la société Kokuga-kai.

1951 Reçoit un prix de la Société Kokuga-kai pour la série « NINGEN NO SEKAI (Le monde des humains) » et devient membre de cette société 1954 Participation en tant que membre organisateur du mouvement « Gutai »

1956 Présentation d’œuvres à l'exposition internationale d'art de Carnegie 1960-62 Séjour à New York (école d'art rattachée au musée de Brooklyn)

1970 Quitte la société Kokuga-kai 1975 « Première exposition ROKUGATSU-NO-KAZE - Sadami Azuma 69-75 » (Tokyo Central Salon) Publication d'une collection d'œuvres d'art en cuivre gravées au burin intitulées « SHOKUSHI-KUKAN (Espace visuel tactile) »

 

1977 Publication d'une collection d'œuvres d'art en cuivre gravées au burin intitulée « JIKAN WARIEmploi du temps) » 1978-80 Séjour à Grenade, Espagne 1980 Publication d'une collection d'œuvres d'art en cuivre gravées au burin intitulée « GRANADA FUDOKI (Chroniaue historique et géographique sur Grenade) »

1984 « Sadami Azuma - SUKIMA 82-84 » (Salon UNAC-UNir les Arts Contemporaines à la vie quotidienne)

2005 Publication d’une collection d'œuvres d'art en cuivre gravées au burin intitulées « Prescriptions de la famille Franken » et « SUKIMA (espaces) »

2014 « Exposition rétrospective Sadami Azuma 1 - Miroir du Temps ~ un univers sculpté au burin ~ » (Galerie Kourintei à Kagurazaka)
